Martin Eden (1909) kuulub Jack Londoni (tegelikult John Griffith Chaney; 12. jaanuar 1876 – 22. november 1916) loomingu kõrgperioodi. Teos on tugevalt autobiograafiline. Martin Eden on tugev isiksus. Ta on noor, terve, piiritult aus, täis elujõudu ja siirast usku inimestesse ja iseendasse. Martin – lihtne hariduseta madrus saavutab pärast üliinimlikena tunduvaid pingutusi kirjanikukuulsuse ja rikkuse. Martin, olles mõjutatud Spenceri ja Nietzsche filosoofiast, kujutades endast “tugevat üksikisikut”, on kaotanud sidemed rahvaga, töölisklassiga, kelle hulgast ta pärineb.
